Testosterone becoming big in Canada

According to CBSA officers there has been 12,104 steroid seizures worth an estimated total of $9,850,529 between the period of 2005 and 2011. It’s hard to say exactly how many Canadians are using steroids. But there are signs to guage whats happening. 49,000 syringes presumed for testosterone injectable use where handed out by Halton Region’s needle exchange program in 2010. It’s clear now that not everyone using steroids is an athlete and more being used by your everyday average Joe. Under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Possessing steroids for personal use carries no criminal penalty.

Why do people use steroids and why are the becoming popular?

There are many pressures in our modern society too look good. The dating market now is highly competitive. Many women today are obese and un-datable by most most men’s standards and this puts 10 to 1 on the available datable babes.  Some men will use PIED drugs to enhance their body image to attract the remaining slim babes on a Friday night out.

Other effects could be environmental. There are many estrogen mimicking particles in our environment that are lowering sperm counts and dropping testosterone levels. Low-T in men can cause depression and lack of ambition. Many men cannot get Testosterone replacement therapy from their doctor so turn to self medicating from the steroid black market. Black market steroids are also higher dose and cheaper then doctor prescribed TRT.

“It’s very challenging I think growing up these days if you’re not physically in great shape.”

Says Dr. Harrison Pope, Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and a leading steroid researcher.

We’ll have to wait some more time and see how this develop and what the long term health effects will be on Canadians.
